Not many people would chuck a shot at an NFL career, but that’s what Baylor quarterback Nick Florence is doing—so he can finish his MBA.
Florence, who graduated from Baylor with an undergraduate degree in economics in 2011, is now enrolled in the MBA program at Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business, where he expects to graduate in December, according to the Baylor Bears website. He told the Waco Tribune that a football career is not what he wanted out of life.
“I’ve decided to hang up my cleats and finish my master’s in December,” Florence told the paper. “My wife and I have spent the last one and a half months talking about it, and it all came down to what we wanted in life, and it didn’t include playing football.”
Florence, who replaced 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, is coming off an extraordinary season that included passing for 4,309 yards and 33 touchdowns, a school record, leading his team to an 8-5 record.
“I’m not quite sure what I want to do,” he told the Tribune, “but I want it to be something involving sports and business.”
